Minecraft King's Landing

One of the world's most popular games, "Minecraft," is heading to virtual reality.

Facebook-owned Oculus VR is partnering with "Minecraft" owner Microsoft to create and release a virtual reality version of the enormously popular game. Oculus executives announced as much during a September 24 press conference in Los Angeles, part of the company's now-annual developer conference called "Oculus Connect." The game will be sold through the Windows store and the Oculus store, and it's a version of "Minecraft for Windows 10."

The virtual reality version of "Minecraft" lets players step into its blocky, custom-crafted worlds using either Samsung's "Gear VR" headset (which is available now and requires a high-end Samsung phone to function) or the Oculus Rift (which is planned for an early 2016 launch).

The VR version of "Minecraft" will launch next spring.

That's all the information we know thus far, but we'll assuredly hear more about "Minecraft" heading to virtual reality in the coming weeks and months.
